    ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt

I'm about to upgrade from 20.04 to 22.04, and I saw a reference on the Kubuntu page to something called "ubuntu-release-upgrader-qt". I've not been able to find out much about it online, and I'm just wondering whether it effectively upgrades the release while leaving Home and installed programs alone? Alternately, I can try what jglen490 taught me a couple of years ago about how to do an install while leaving /Home intact.
And yes, no matter which I try, I will back up Home externally before anything else.
    Thank you for your time.

Contents of /home/username are not touched by any system update/upgrade. That doesn’t mean installed applications can’t be removed (if required) by a system update/upgrade. But the standard caveat of “when in doubt, backup first” still applies.
