[SOLVED] Wont boot if "home" drive connected

So I;ve wiped and reinstalled..... That failed. all I get afet BIOS boot is a blinking underscore line
I even tried it with the "home Drive" (seperate drive from main OS drive" disconnected same thing...
I went back in time (felt like it) and installed 20.04, then upgraded from there (discover I think was behind it)
now that the PC OS is fine, IT STILL WONT BOOT WITH "HOME Drive" PLUGGED in... Just that blinking Underscore.

WHY?
I haven't even told the OS that I want to move the Home Drive, so I don't see how it would "care" if there is a disk labeled "home"
CTRL+ALT+F1, F2, F3 does nothing either.
currently home drive is connected via external usb drive.

I'll take any suggests for a dollar

So is your /home actually on an external drive now (the "home drive")?

If not, boot without the external drive and in Konsole sudo update-grub && sudo grub-install /dev/sda (if your system has been installed to the /dev/sda drive).
Reboot and test again.

PS: Posting the contents of your /etc/fstab could also be a step further towards solving the problem.

There seem to be some things mixed up or at least unlogical to me…

Installing for i386-pc platform.

You use a 32-Bit machine / legacy boot?

# /boot/efi was on /dev/sdb1 during installation

…but you have an EFI partition?

sudo grub-install /dev/sdc

According to your fstab there is /boot/efi on /dev/sdb1 - but you re-installed GRUB to /dev/sdc ?


You seem to have several partitions.
The output of lsblk -f -e7 and an accompanying explanation which partition is used for what could clear things up further.

OKAY. Found and eliminated one problem. BIOS had stuffed up. Most likely when I disconnected all but the boot drive.
I have re-connected every drive, and changed their order on the motherboard.
P0=120 boot Drive OS Drive
P1 = 1TB SSD /Home Drive
P2 = Nu-Alpha Encrypted and needs PW @ boot to make it work
P3 = S-Drive (stuff it) drive. as in Stuff, trash things to read, youtube vids to re-watch, etc.

SO all above is probable wrong ORDER now

Back to SchwarzerKater. Things are unlogical to you (and me) so what is your best reccommendation to fix it. PS I have no IDEA how I have a 32-bit machine. It's 64bits

13 year old. 32 bit legacy but 64bit instruction set.
