    USB not mounting from GUI

    Hello

Since recently Kubuntu 22.04 is only identifying USB when inserted. It is not possible to mount it, although previously it was mounting it automatically. Is it possible that recent usage of a new USB drive unknown to system provoked this behavior? That new drive might be problematic and had to be formatted several times, although the problem might not be from it. Sudo mount /dev/sda1 works fine and after that it could be unmounted only by sudo umount and NOT from GUI (which is identifying it correctly as mounted)?

    Any suggestions?

Check out system settings, removable storage, removable devices. If you check On attach for the first line, you can auto-mount either "All devices" or "All known devices" according to the "automatically mount" checkbox at the bottom. Or, you can set up known devices individually.

Update: when mounted via command line, some devices are read-ony eg. card reader is write protected and usb stick works normaly...

A card reader would be read only; it’s what holds an SD card. Similar to a CD-ROM drive and an inserted CD-Disc.

Semantically yes, but not really. It was working as any USB stick previously...

Did you check what jlittle wrote?

Some more information could be helpful to solve your problem, e.g. when you mount a drive from the CLI: which commands did you use or which file system types are on the media you mounted etc.?

And if you mount something with sudo to e.g. a directory in /media you will have to have superuser privileges to unmount it - regardless if you use CLI or GUI (Dolphin should trigger to ask you for a password then)…

What I did is delete /dev/sda1 from fstab and restarted.
              For now it works...

Well, there's your answer. If it's in fstab, then it's not logically a removable device. fstab is for fixed devices.
