In 22.04 how do I unlock screen/icons, please? They appear in a column at the left side and fly back there when I try to move them to desktop. Tried previous methods but failed.

Right click on the desktop produces :
Desktop Icons
Size Normal
Position of new icons Bottom Right - with alternatives Top Left - Top Right - Bottom Left
Dock
Position on screen Left - with alternatives Bottom and Right
And that seems to be it, no option offered to move icons to the centre. I have been prowling around among other entries offered but none seem to say anything about un/locking the screen.
