Install package xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Once installed, you have to logout and log back in (I just do a full restart to be absolutely sure). Then see System Settings > Input Devices > Touchpad and click on the Enable/Disable Touchpad Tab. There, check Disable touchpad when mouse is plugged inWindows no longer obstructs my view.
