Cannot connect to Internet with 20.04

Thanks for this. I went through them all and most did not work as they required an install, which isnt possible at the moment, or they retirned "Command not recognised"
These 2 commands worked or at least ran:

I suggest booting from a live USB if you have one (a good idea to have one), and check if it connects ok. If it does, a reinstall, or restore from backup before updating the VPN, might be the quickest ways forward. (A reinstall would not be quick for me on my desktop, I have so much software installed and configured.)

The motherboard is MSI with an Intel chipset, using an onboard network card. I have been using a VPN, not sure about the firewall, how can I find that?

The firewall maybe in the router but if it was working before That's most likely not the reason.

If you can download Inxi from this page http://ports.ubuntu.com/pool/univers...13-1-1_all.deb

with another machine and put it on a usb stick or disc of some sort and install it in kubuntu machine that is having the problem with qapt.
The run this command in a terminal an post the output here it would be helpful.

inxi -Nn

I suspect we will find a realtek Ethernet card.

Also it may be worth downloading and trying 22.04 live see if it connects.

Is is feasible to try an upgrade over the existing 20.04 to the latest LTS? If so, that might be the easiest.

On a side note, can anyone recommend a good book for newbs to get me up to par? I have years of experience on PC's, so nothing too basic please!

As far as upgrading to the next version I would say if you have no internet it would be hard to do. An I'm not a big fan of upgrading from one major release to the next. I would try 22.04 live and if it all works backup my important data and do a fresh install.

As far as books go there are many out there but you can find all kinds of stuff on line for free.
