    Are zero-byte updates legitimate

    lThe most recent update offered to me included zero-byte updates for linux-headers-5-15.0-50, linux-headers-5-15.0-50-generic, linux-image-5.15.0-50-generic, linux-modules-5.15.0-50-generic, and linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-50-generic. Should I proceed with this update, or do I need to do something to get the content for those updates? The update package included other updates that had finite files sizes.

    Where are you seeing zero bytes? In the additional disk space used?
    Of course you want these kernel related updates, these are security patches.

    These updates often involve code changes that net zero differences in the packages size or the space used after installation.

    Copy and paste where you see this, so we can see the context, and explain what you are seeing, as well as a Just In Case, of course.

    Code:
    $ apt show linux-headers-5.15.0-50
    Package: linux-headers-5.15.0-50

      Somehow I missed this response. Eventually I updated, and nothing bad happened. The subject updates were labeled zero byte in the description that shows up in the notification that an update is available.
