    I have a Lan Problem

    hi all, for some reason my lan driver is not working but here is where it gets a little strange my wifi is working, ill give you as much information as i can.

    i cant for love or money seem to get the lan connection to work but the wifi is wokring, and yes i have tried diabling wifi and i am left with no network connection.

    ive tried the following

    clean installing kububtu 24
    clean installing kubuntu 23..10
    clean installing kubuntu 22.04
    dowloding from the realtek website it gives me the following error.

    I have the exact same ethernet and no issues here. Enter this: lspci -vv and look at the Ethernet part;

                the mt7921e is the wireless module that is built into my motherbord

                the lan driver was working before the update to 6.0.5.35-generic and now it does not so i have been searching for the correct driver for this lan port which is bunled into my motherboard the ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WiFi II AMD B550 WiFi 6 ATX Motherboard

                  Oh, I see. I didn't realize you included info from the wifi card. It's really not relevant at all to why your Ethernet port isn't working.

                  Well, based on what you posted, IMO the kernel is NOT assigning the any driver to your Ethernet port.

                  If it just started with the -35 kernel, then boot to an earlier one. No need to "search" for anything, just boot to a working kernel.

                  I would uninstall the r8168 driver and undo whatever you did with it as I don't believe that's the right one to attempt to use and will probably cause problems later.

                  It's odd that my, same Ethernet port works fine with -35. Are you sure you installed all the kernel add-ons?

                    Wifi is completely unrelated to Ethernet in both hardware and drivers.

                    Have you looked at your BIOS settings for anything related to the hardware? Is your BIOS up to date? It not working on three Ubuntu releases using two different kernel versions points at a hardware problem, so a BIOS setting might be the first thing to investigate.

                      the lan port works flawlesly under windows 10 & 11 and i can confirm that its works using the Kubuntu Live CD's

                      then a system update seems to make the lan disapear.

                      now it is quite posible that in my attempt to fix what apeard to be a missing driver that i may have removed the one that came with the system which had stopped working and the ones i have tried to install are for a lower kenrel.

                      with these points in mind ive been thinking.

                      would a purge of the 6.5.0-35-generic kernel followed by a reinstalation of said kernel help

                      it seems odd that apt would remove a vital driver if no others was to be installed in its place or am i missing somthing here.

                      i maye be better of doing a clean install or do you guys think this is salvageable

                        First, as oshunluvr said/asked, boot to a prior kernel to ensure/verify that all works as expected. Assuming that it does, you could then purge the suspected kernel (while still in the booted 'prior' kernel) and then reinstall it and then reboot into it and test.

                          First, as oshunluvr said/asked, boot to a prior kernel to ensure/verify that all works as expected. Assuming that it does, you could then purge the suspected kernel (while still in the booted 'prior' kernel) and then reinstall it and then reboot into it and test.
                          sorry i was ment to do that but i totaly forgot, my advanced options for Kubunutu menu in grub is only showing kernel 6.5.0.35-generic abd 6.5.0.41-generic along with thier respective recovery modes.

                          alas i tried both kernels to be sure and still no lan driver been picked up

                          Kernel 6.50.0.41-generic is giving this output for sudo lshw -c network

                          i suspect that in my misguided attempts to fix this problem i may have made a whoper of a mess i apreciate all the help i am reciving this is one of the qualitys that make Kubuntu a user friendly distro.

                          is there any other routes of investigation as to how to fix this?

                            well this is strange i downloaded the driver from the realtek website and ran the installer script on the 6.5.0-41-generic kernel and now the ethernet is working.
