Latest update restored Broadcom wireless chip support

Just thanks to the devs. My onboard BCM43142 wireless chip stopped being recognized over a year ago. The last firmware update brought it back. Kudos and YAY!

My normal process is to update to the latest kernel release as they appear, hence, when Kernel 10.2.10 was available, I installed it and <fart sound> my internal wireless chip (BCM43142) running as wlo1 again failed (see OP above). I then reverted to Kernel 6.2.8 and Presto! my wlo1 connection to the Broadcom 43142 chip was restored and is again working... FYI

I hope the devs can restore kernel support for the Broadcom 43142 chip in future kernel releases. I don't want to be forced to stay with Kernel 6.2.8 as the Linux releases evolve.

That ain't a proper *buntu kernel,
If this is a 'mainline' one, this actually demonstrates the downsides to using them.
Ubuntu didn't actually do anything other than compile it. Linus et all fixed that, then broke it lol

Mainline kernels lack many build options or other things needed to support hardware all the time. They are built with fairly stock generic configs, and distros usually do their own configs to add different support and build options when they create ones for official release.
6.2.x is sort of the bleeding edge kernel. while 6.1 is the stable branch, iirc
Ubuntu takes whichever kernel is slated to be in their next release, and takes the good things from

I might guess that this sort of fix might make it to 23.04's build of the 6.2.0 kernel, if they aren't already there. 22.04 should see that version backported, but not for a bit yet.

Thanks for the feedback Claydoh, I'll bear it in mind before I update my running kernel code. It is frustrating to have the Broadcom chip support flip on/off like this.

The latest kernel version: 6.2.11 was offered and I ran a test. It DOES support my Broadcom 43142 wireless chip. I'm a happy camper again.
