    activate Firewire ports?

Trying to download old DV files from my Sony VX1000 camcorder.

Although the (old) computer I am trying on has firewire plugs, Kubuntu will not see the Sony cam when I plug it in to the firewire port.

Is there something I have to activate or download to use these ports on 22.04?

I looked in Synaptic, and there seems to be some firewire driver packages available. I don't have any firewire connections, so not sure which one(s) will work.

      Thanks for that.
I got a Win10 to take a firewire card and it is working.
I just want to save these old video files so I don't lose them.

I do have a Blu-ray burner in this computer so it would be nice to be able to burn them to a Blu-ray disk for storage. Still trying to figure this out.
It would be great to find some authoring software to make chapters on a blu-ray disk and call them the file name.

You might look at dvdstyler. Recent releases seem to support blu ray.

You probably need huge amounts of free disk space, I'll guess. Burning may require a different app, but k3b should be able to do that part
