How well does the Intel 11th CPUs gen work for gaming?

I need to get a new desktop this fall and I was wondering how well does the Intel 11th Gen CPUs work with gaming?

I was given an HP-15ncxxxxx last August for my 80th birthday. It is a 17.3" 11th gen Intel CPU with the IRIS Xe GPU. I wiped Win11 and replaced it with NEON, and I upgraded the 4GB of RAM to 16GB. I swapped the 1TB HD spinner with a 500GB Samsung 860 Pro SSD and added a 1TB MVNe SSD.
The IRIS Xe "borrows" memory from RAM if it needs more to run a graphical app. I run Universe Sandbox^2 and it is as smooth as silk, even when running the simulation of 50 moons rotating the earth, or the collision of galaxies. Minecraft gives me 125 to 250 or so FPS. When I open an app it snaps to the screen almost instantaneously.

I've tried both the Xserver and Wayland, and both work equally well. Wayland is a little faster, sometimes by 2X, but Xserver has fewer to none of the occasional glitches, which have never killed the desktop but have shown up in the logs.

So, all in all, the 11th Gen Intel CPU is working great on this laptop. My old Acer had an NVida GT 650M GPU and the ISIS Xe appears as fast or faster than the Nvidia running the same software.

Thanks GreyGeek. So games work fine with Intel 11th Gen then, because I heard shortly after they came out that people were having issues with it.

The issues were that the 11th gen was not seen (by the hardware geeks) as much of an upgrade from the 10th gen, or so little that it was not worth it, from a gaming perspective.

But really, a desktop i7 is going to game well, no matter what

An i7 7700k (7th gen) will still produce in excess of 100 fps in most games if coupled with the right GPU.
If your monitor is a 60hz one even an oldish FX-8350 will serve you well.

Just throwing my 2c . Intel CPUs have been fine for gaming /basically anything else on Linux since forever . Of course depends somewhat on what games you have in mind.

Nevertheless , usually from a recent iteration i3 upwards, you are good to go . Linux anyway , stresses the CPU a lot less than Windows .
