KDE neon will have the same exact drivers and kernel as Kubuntu 22.04.

But it should have much better multi screen support in its much newer Plasma version. No idea on the tablet support, but it will be identical in many ways, since the actual OS on both is the same (drivers etc)

Indeed, it is almost the same. Actually I tried to download KDE Neon User edition, but when I wanted to install it, it appeared to be the unstable edition... Something is wrong over there..grrrr.
Back in the days of LInux Mint KDE there where much less problems of many kind.....

Odd, I thought that this was fixed shortly after it was discovered My iso from later that day is fine. The image for 22 January, with build ID of 1437 ( neon-user-20240122-1437.iso ) is the bad one. The one ending in 2226 is good (neon-user-20240122-2226.iso), so you may want to re-download your image.

Well, if so, then they have tricked me well in letting me think it was much more because no matter how wondrous that might have been, I have never had any problems with mint KDE. By the way: Mintstick for usb formatting and imaging is also not aboard on Kubuntu. :P quite the convenient piece of software. Might there be somebody out there telling me Mint is 98% ubuntu? :P

I am going to try the other KDE Neon image, let's see if that will make my wacom pad work well....If not, back to Kubuntu and see how it goes further.

I have discovered also there is this "secret page" https://files.kde.org/neon/images/user/current/ where you can download iso files from KDE together with the checksums. I do not know what to do with those PGP signatures. Ok, so 2226 will do, going to download that one.

Well, 85%? it depends on what you measure, the number of components that come from Ubuntu vs Mint on a stock Mint install, the physical size of these components, or something else. At the OS level, they are actually even more identical. Mint *is* a modified Ubuntu LTS still.

Back when there was still a Mint KDE, the difference between Kubuntu and this was quite literally less than 12 packages. It may have been as low as 9. Other than the menu, It was all appearance and a couple of utilities.

my point is, Mint, neon, and Ubuntu 22.04 will have identical (or very similar) kernels and driver stacks, and you will have very similar levels of hardware support as they are all identical in this regard.
(actually, Mint may stick to the older original kernel, not sure if they follow LTS' HWE kernels, the ISO comes with the OG 5.15 kernel, the current is 6.5.0, and 6.2.0 until very recently). if you really want to test hardware support differences, you really need to stray away from the *buntu/Mint and even Debian clones to a certain extent.

Mintstick for usb formatting and imaging is also not aboard on Kubuntu. :P

So? Kubuntu comes with a USB creator tool already :P :P

Kubuntu has a usb creator indeed, but I find mintstick very user friendly. Matter of preferences. If Mint KDE really - no reason not to believe you - was 98% Kubuntu, then I wonder why they gave the amount of time for maintenance as a reason....

When I clicked on one of the download links, a download started but I could not find that certain page. I found that one by some creative googling. I have downloaded the file you pointed me to and right now I am typing this message on my brand new KDE Neon installation. Later on I will check if it handles my tablet well. Good thing there is still my mint cinnamon installation in case the tablet causes trouble again. I hope Neon can handle it because I prefer KDE as workstation of choice. The installation went remarkably fast I might add....

"The link for User points to this -- the 2226 image" that was indeed very strange, when I clicked on that link I got the unstable version but clicking on the iso-number you gave me in that not so secret link, was the right thing to do. Let's hope neon is indeed better with mutiple screens and drawing pads/tablets...and Nvidia. :P
