Can't minimize windows to taskbar

I don't understand why when I add an icon to the taskbar it ends up to the left of the start or menu button. Tried fixing it using right-click Enter Edit Mode which made the taskbar a mess. I can't minimize windows to the taskbar anymore as well. I should probably go back to Windows 8.1 where everything is a whole lot easier to use.

It's best to delete the panel at this stage: right-click, edit mode, more options, remove panel. Get out of edit mode and right-click on the desktop, add panel, Kubuntu default panel.
