[DESKTOP] Kubuntu Panel not loading on boot

    Hello

Recently about 30% of the time after I login, the Kubuntu Panel should load up.

But now it does not loadup at the desktop is just with the wallpaper. When I do CTRL ALT DEL and bring up so I can log out. It just then goes back to the desktop and I cant do a thing. So I have to manually turn off the computer at the power button.

The next boot it then loads up fine.

Is there a command I can use to try and figure out what is happening. Has anyone else had this happen.

Are you sure it isn't just hidden?

When you are able to have a 'normal' Desktop, open Konsole and type: ls -laR root

Is anything other than .. listed?

The same issue her in Kubuntu 22.04. Sometime it doesn't load panel and widgets and at that point it is not responding to super key to open the menu.
However I usually have browser and terminal run as auto start at startup, so every thing actually runs fine with that limited usability of interface.
Other times panel and widgets load at random time point if I continue running it after "invalid" startup. 20.4 did not have this bug.

If this happens, try hitting alt-f2 to open krunner, and try restarting plasmashell like so:

            plasmashell --replace
See if that reloads the desktop components.
This is the standard thing to try in this sort of situation, where it seems that plasmashell has crashed for some reason, and it could not restart itself.

it may not help with a cause, but might keep from having to reboot, or force things.

I get an error running the command ((ls: cannot access 'root': No such file or directory)))

Sorry ‘bout that! The correct command is: ls -laR | grep root

It might be helpful to also while it's up and running to install inxi
                    Code:
                    sudo apt install inxi
                    Then run in a terminal
                    Code:
                    inxi -Fxxxzr
and post the output back here.

So far I did not have opportunity to test this because its booting properly so far.
Is alt+F2 going to work actually and open Krunner if the shell is not loaded prior to that?
I am guessing that the stated command will work from the terminal as well (because I have it always opened)...

It should work if you have a desktop, and a mouse cursor, with wallpaper, but no panels or widgets (plasma, the desktop shell, has crashed, or something has not loaded). heck, Krunner usually works even if you have a black screen, and just a cursor (the window manager kwin_x11 crashed or did not load for some reason). But it is NOT a terminal tool, so will not work if you switch to a tty (ctrl-alt-f-something)

basically Krunner is just (more or less) the search part of your Kmenu, which can do a heck of a lot more than just search for apps, such as run some commands. It is an alternative application to the kmenu and other application launcher tools for those who don't like menus on panels, or the popup window style launchers. .

If you were to run that command directly in Konsole or something, as soon as you closed the window, plasmashell would stop running. it is just easier, cleaner, and less confusing to use Krunner for this. If you want to run in your terminal, do so in a separate tab or window, and run it this way plasmashell --replace & This will still probably fill the window with useless text, though, so a separate tab is probably a good idea,

Is alt+F2 going to work actually and open Krunner if the shell is not loaded prior to that?
I am guessing that the stated command will work from the terminal as well (because I have it always opened)...
I have tried something, I have added another Default Panel. And so far I have not had this problem happen again yet so far. And I have booted about 8 times.

Before I did the above I deleted the current Panel I had and created a new default panel and still had the issue.
