    KDE Wallet? damn damn damn

    1. Password requested when none has been set

Just installed 22.04 on my Acer Swift3 backup laptop. Restarting the system I am suddenly confronted with a KDE Wallet modal window wanting a password. WHAT PASSWORD? I have set no password, and I have NO desire to have KDE Wallet running at all. This never happened to me on 20.04.

Neither supervisor or account password does anything.

    2. Mystery surprises are NOT good.

Having KDE stuff shoved in my face was one of the reasons I left Kubuntu years ago. I'm back and won't likely leave again, but WHY are they doing this crap? And it's blocking my wifi access? Really? I'm locked out. Unbelievable.

KDE Wallet is not in the packages, so apparently, it's not encouraged that we uninstall.

    3. System settings control of KDE Wallet does nothing

KDE Wallet has an entry in System Settings, with an "Enable..." checkbox checked by default. I unchecked it, applied the change, and...it did nothing.

This is a well-tested LTS OS? I cannot comprehend how this situation might have occurred.

What's the fix for this mess, please?....[ The fix is to get System Settings working. See #6 below.)

    4. Secret knowledge is required. Bad....

The fix is to reboot, it turns out. Apparently one cannot fly this thing without secret knowledge.

Now, if a reboot is needed before a system settings change is actually applied, don't give me an "apply" button that does...nothing. This is bad interface design, pure and simple. Give me a system reboot button. Why? Because that just being honest.

    5. No autostart internet connect upon reboot? My PHONE is more competent that this!

So far, I have to re-input the router account password after every reboot.. 20.04 doesn't do this to me; why does 22.04?

I see no fix for this. Is there one?

    6. Yes...only it doesn't work. System Settings is a mess too.

In Network > connections...there is a checkbox for "Connect automatically with priority [ 0 ]". It was checked. There was no explanation as to what the "0" meant or what options might be. I entered a 10. I also checked the box below to allow access by all users.

The "apply" button was NOT activated. Huh? Rebooting, I see that this does nothing. Nothing. No autoconnect of wifi. and changes in system settings are gone.

I'm so glad I didn't load this mess on my main laptop.

    7. Extra bonus issue! Cannot edit subject line of this post. <== RESOLVED. (Javascript blocker was the cause)

It did, for quite a long time, though is supposed to have taken place in the background during the install process, or during initial login (I can't recall). Some sort of unintentional bug, I'll wager. Definitely not normal
Kwallet is where your passwords are stored, for WiFi, etc. Think Gnome's keyring
it *can* have its own password, like any other password manager, but it is supposed to have been set to the password created during the install.

The usual, long-standing (decades?) process to fix this when the normal setup is busted is to set a blank password on the default wallet via System Settings >> KDE Wallet >> Launch Wallet Manager. It will never bug you again.
I'll wager the solution would have revealed itself in the first couple search results, as though usually rare these days, has been something that has happened in KDE for almost as long there there has been a KDE, and is NOT specific to Kubuntu at all.

I have no idea what 'shoving' is happening. I know you had a bad experience, but come on now.....
Kubuntu is pretty vanilla KDE, so I imagine you will see similar issues no matter which distro you use.

Just wait till you start finding out about Firefox and Snaps ................

I was gonna say "Welcome Back". I'll wait a bit.

Not helpful. Editing has a function - it improves communication by allowing error correction and better word choice, among other things. But not for us mere forum members apparently. Why not?
All you have to do is click Edit (Edit Quote Comment Flag Like Bottom Top) at the bottom of post #1. Then you can edit the Subject. Been that way since day one.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

I agreed that that's what's supposed to happen, and if you can do it, great. I cannot. Clicking edit, I then see the subject line, with its contents greyed out. I cannot edit that subject line in any way. Input is just not accepted. The post body is quite editable, but not the subject line or text. That's why I was puzzled. Made no sense. Any thoughts about what's going on?

I suspect it is from changes involved in the forum software upgrade.

One *can* edit the title, but there is a timeout.

Thanks - will do that. Sounds like a fix.

I fully expected to find a solution like this when I searched - and I did several searches, including in this forum. Didn't see this or any other usable solution. And almost all the comments were well over 5 years old, which was very puzzling.

OK I was a bit shocked to see this happen, given the current advanced state of Kubuntu, etc. It looked like a regression that just shouldn't occur. I remember at least two other KDE programs I had surprisingly bad experiences with - but this was probably at least 10 years ago. Sigh.

It's already happened. I was getting messages that I needed to stop Firefox so the update would not mess things up (what? are you kidding?). I stopped it. Nothing happened. I tried to do a manual update. No go. My limit on crazy software was exceeded at that point. Snap Firefox is gone.

I've been back a while. Sailing alone happily on 20.04. Waited a while to do a 22.04 update, so glitches could be shaken out...didn't wait long enough it seems. Still, I've never seen a distro I prefer to Kubuntu.

Thanks for your comments and help.

I doubt that this is relevant, but to be clear this was taken from my 20.04 Kubuntu laptop.

Another mystery. Are you saying one has only a short time to do the edit? Or...? I confess that I don't understand what you're saying. But more importantly, an interface that requires explanation is a failure by definition. I'm hoping this is just a bug showing up.

Okay, yeah, the Title is greyed out as you said. That shouldn't be. What browser are you using?

That was really dumb of me. The browser is more important than the OS version. Sorry.

Browser is Firefox 102.0 - says its from canonical, but I checked and isn't the snap version.

Double-check. the deb/apt package simply installs the Snap version, unless you manually disabled this and used an alternative source for Firefox

I was looking at some configs, and saw one for a timeout for editing a title, though I may be reading things wrong.

See if you can go back and edit it now.

"Double-check. the deb/apt package simply installs the Snap version, unless you manually disabled this and used an alternative source for Firefox" - I very tersely mentioned above that I'd removed the snap Firefox. Am currently using FF 102.0 downloaded from the FF homepage.

Found the source of the edit problem. This is embarrassing: my javascript blocker. Sign. The forum software is not the issue. All is well now, relative to title editing.

I have reverted the setting change I made back to the previous config on the forum software, so if you could check to verify if it is working still, if you get a chance?

Not working! Sorry. I cannot now access the subject line for an edit.

Update July 25, 1753 Pacific time - is working fine now.
