No desktops overview. Pressing Meta+W does nothing.

    I recently upgraded from 21.10.
    I am now running:
    Operating System: Kubuntu 22.04
    KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.4
    KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
    Qt Version: 5.15.3
    Kernel Version: 5.15.0-30-generic (64-bit)
    Graphics Platform: X11
    Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz
    Memory: 15.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620

I downloaded .iso of Kubuntu 22.04 and live boot it on same machine. I press Meta+W and I get the Desktops overview.

But cannot get desktops overview when running upgraded OS.

Any suggestion how can I troubleshoot this?

Do mean the "Desktop Grid" desktop effect? "Zoom out so all desktops are displayed side-by-side in a grid"?

If so, first check that that effect is enabled in system settings, workspace behaviour, desktop effects. If it is enabled, and is set to activate with Meta-W, you may have got some KDE shortcut flakiness; I get it sometimes. You may have better luck going to system settings, shortcuts, KWin, show desktop grid; I did, in that the effect doesn't happen with the standard ctrl-F8 shortcut, but adding Meta-W worked.

Thanks so much for your response.

The overview effect Im trying to activate with Meta+W (which is default shortcut for that action - I didnt have to set it when running 22.04 from .iso) is similar, but not exactly the same as Desktop Grid. "Overview" reveals all windows on current desktop in foreground, and along the top of screen are placed small rectangles representing desktops, also allowing you to drag windows upward and plop them into any desktop, and switch to any desktop by clicking upon it with mouse.

Since my original post, I have been able to program a screen corner to activate "Overview".

So thats some progress, but still no luck getting it to activate through a kbd shortcut though.

I did follow your suggestion and investigated desktop effects. I found there, under Window Management,
      1. "Desktop Grid",
      2. "Overview", and
      3. "Present Windows".

I can get #1 Desktop Grid to work, which is great, and similar to Overview, but not the same.
      2. Overview is checked, with Meta+W set as shortcut. But it doesnt work when I try it. I tried changing the shortcut to a different combo. Still didnt work. And by the way, to make this slightly more confusing, the video for Overview shows a similar effect, but strangely not exactly the one I got with the .iso.
      3. Present Windows works fine.

I would much rather be able to program a kbd shortcut (or just use the default Meta+W) than have to move the cursor up to the corner to get the intended overview effect. Wondering what could be blocking it...and how to find out...

(its a small thing, but annoying - I can always try and install from the iso, but i imagine there is a simpler way)

Anyway, thank you so much for responding!

        UPDATE:

        Found

        "Weird Meta Key Issues"
        https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=309&t=152579

which mentions Latte Dock, and also Plasma default panel, being possibly related to similar issue, of Meta key stopping to function.

So I went to Discover and installed and uninstalled "KDE Plasma Desktop - Latte Tasks", and also created and deleted default plasma dock, and logged out and logged back in.

Should not have done all 3 together - now I am not sure which of these did the trick - but upon logging back in, the Meta+W shortcut is now working smoothly, and consistently, to open Overview.
