So don't assign mount points to both EFI partitions?
Only assign the one that is on the Kubuntu drive. Don't even look at or touch the Windows one.

Can't tell you which one is which without more info, nvme0n and nvme1n are both of your SSDs

can you take a picture of your partition setup?
I wonder if we are missing important information, and this is making it harder to figure out.

We are not seeing nvme0n1p1. Look at that, and remove the mount point. Mark it as 'do not use'

                  unpluged ssd with windows
                  install kubuntu on ssd2
                  pc turn off
                  plug in windows ssd
                  boot in to kubuntu
                  sudo update-grub
                  and magic is there
windows have boot efi on own ssd(1)
kubuntu have boot efi on own ssd(2)

This was just the the hard way to remove the unwanted mount point for nvme0n1p1
