[SOLVED] How to use the translucency option in panel's opacity option

Kubuntu 21.04 with the backports ppa (so Plasma 5.22.2)

In Edit panel > more options, there's a section on opacity with three possibilities: Adaptive, Opaque, and Translucent. I don't see any difference no matter which I choose (on X11 or on Wayland with Intel graphics).

Is there some other setting that needs to be activated first to get the panel to be translucent and can there be degrees of translucency?

The Adaptive setting changes the transparency for maximized windows, and the specific theme needs to implement it, iirc

I am using Latte dock, so I do have this feature available from that, but it does not look like the Plasma panel has any other configuration than what the videos show.

@claydoh, thanks for the explanation and links. The changes are subtle for me with Breeze Dark.
