Laptop screen back light flashes every 10s or so since upgrade

Every 5 to 10 seconds, the screen brightness dims then returns to normal a half second or so later.

Or, possible the inverse if I set it to 0% by two finger scrolling the battery icon, it's only dim for a but then goes back to bright for a short time.

Kmail and akonida, then display problems.
This is unusual. Did you verify your ISO before you installed it?

      It was an inplace upgrade.

If my ISO had been bad though, spectacularly unlikely would have turned up a valid but incomplete set of packages, that also all unpacked and verified OK.

          Came back.

I removed some kernel params I've had for a while (nopti, acpi_backlight=vendor) as well as the redshift command and plasmoid and think it was the last two that fixed it.
