Hello there, Kubuntu community!
Ever since I've installed and tried Kubuntu on my AMD-based laptop, I've seen some issues when playing videos with VLC.
The main issue here is how bad the image looks, whether a video file is being played or just paused.
I get these horizontal lines, low-res images and initially I thought this could be an isolated issue that could just disappear after updating the system. Nope, it's still there.
Tried an AppImage version from VLC website because both stock version for Kubuntu (3.0.9) and the Snap one show me the same visual disturbance/artifact. To my surprise, the AppImage did what other versions couldn't, and it's on v3.0.11.1. However, this morning I received a video-driver-related update and after updating, this issue now extends to the AppImage. Have a look:
Focus on the background. Images in the video have the "trilinear " effect. It's like that for both VLC 3.0.9 and 3.0.11-1 Vetinari (AppImage).
Because I was able to get around that issue with another software version, I think this could be related to Kubuntu in some way. Or is it entirely VLC's fault?
Have you ever had this issue before with VLC? If so, how did you manage to fix it?
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
