balooctl
balooctl
is a CLI command to perform certain operations on Baloo. The operations are indicated by arguments. All available arguments can be listed by issuing balooctl --help in terminal app, such as userbase:Konsole.
To be noted, argument checkDb is only meant to be used by developers for debugging. All it does is to print some messages but not to sanitize the database. And the execution time grows exponentially with the number of indexed files (see Comment 5 under bug #380465).

Baloo is the search and indexing tool for Plasma, mainly Dolphin, as well as file results in the k-menu an krunner. You can turn it off, or change some settings in System Settings' Search section.

You could search the forum for my rants about baloo... But anyway, you should clear out ~/./local/share/baloo, by which I mean delete everything in it. I'd expect that would fix your error message; the next time baloo runs it will rebuild its index in there.
But a corrupt index with a crash on startup is but one of baloo's failure modes, and a relatively benign one at that. Maybe it runs ok for most Kubuntu users, but for some of us it always screws up sooner or later and you might one of us. System settings, search, uncheck enable file search.Regards, John Little
