    [PLASMA 5] Saved from theme disaster

    Yesterday I was playing around with a couple of themes I'd installed from System Settings and one of them crashed the settings app! Settings would fail to open after that so I thought I'd try removing those themes from Discover, only that kept crashing too!

    A quick search turned up a Terminal command called lookandfeeltool (Built in, no need to install anything!)

    lookandfeeltool --help

    I ran:

    lookandfeeltool --list

    to see what themes were installed and went back to a theme that was known to work, in this case:

    lookandfeeltool -a Breeze-Blue-Dark

    And everything was back to normal, Settings and Discover now opened normally. I removed the themes I'd installed (didn't like them anyway) and all is well!
    Constant change is here to stay!

    I am grateful that you posted about this experience! It just happens that I was looking at themes with transparency yesterday and was debating on installing one. What theme gave you the issues if you don't mind me asking? I was looking at a light theme that had transparency similar to what Windows 10 has. I held off because I was not certain how many packages I needed to install to have the complete theme and effect I was after.

      For transparency, what I did is downlaod the plasma style called maia transparent. Then use your default global them as breeze and switch the plasma style to maia.

          I usually don't use one global theme, but use different plasma, icons, window decorations and pointers from two or three themes. This shouldn't be a problem and usually isn't. I was trying a theme that mimics the upcoming crApple Big Sur look and that could have been what brought the whole thing crashing down! Right now I use:

          Plasma Style = Arc Dark
          Application Style = Breeze
          Colours = Arc Dark
          Window Decoration = Arc Dark
          Icons = Breeze Blue Dark
          Cursor = Crystal Blue Left (I'm left handed and right handed pointers annoy me)

              Also, Gently is another nice transparent Plasma theme! I also found Breeze Transparent Dark, which I'm now using.

                I tried Aritim-Light, pretty much the look I was going for.

                Thank you for your post! You got the wheels turning! I definitely am liking the whole theme experience! Amazing how streamlined plasma can be!
