Works correctly here:
the current Opera shows exactly the same as the current Firefox in Youtube, no differences in video sizes.
Global scaling is set to 100%.
Just tested it on my desktop computer (Kubuntu 20.04).Debian KDE & LXQt • Kubuntu & Lubuntu • openSUSE KDE • Windows • macOS X
Desktop: Lenovo ThinkCentre M75s • Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro 13" • and others
get rid of Snap script (20.04 +) • reinstall Snap for release-upgrade script (20.04 +)
install traditional Firefox script (22.04 +) • install traditional Thunderbird script (24.04)

Not here (Neon 5.18 User, Opera 68.0.3618.125).
Whatever zoom I have it goes "full" fullscreen.
[EDIT] I just tried it on 20.04. Opera 68.0.3618.104. No problems whatsoever :·/Last edited by Don B. Cilly; May 30, 2020, 02:38 PM.

Tested again with changed global scaling (on a Lenovo M720s this time, Kubuntu 20.04).
Still simply works:
Opera (68.0.3618.125) shows exactly the same as Firefox (76.0.1) in Youtube, absolutely no differences in video sizes…
