Alternative to ssh for accessing the media in my media server

As the title says, im looking at new ways of accessing my media on my media server both locally and remotely.

Would something like next cloud allow me to access my media locally and remotely and most important securely (preferred like a ssh tunnel)

Have anyone used next cloud in the past or maybe another solution your advice is appreciated

Depends on the NAS. If you can access it via SAMBA or NFS, you can mount the media just like a drive. Some media servers might support webdav or some other protocols as well.

Remotely, https://nextcloud.com/ is a great option but takes some setup. Not sure you could install it on your NAS, but IF you can mount your file shared on your PC, you could install NextCloud on your PC and then share from there.

Heya pal i fell i should have explained it a tad better.

Im currently running an old del desktop with a pentium d processor and 4 gb of ram.

Under my current configuration my drives are mounted to a merged pool via mergerfs and ive set up a chroot jail with bindings to my media folders tv and films.

I use sftp to access my media using kodi which has support for http/webdav etc and i do the same with my phone when out and about.

In the next few months ill be upgrading to a newer system so that would be idea to implement any next cloud solution or something different entirely.

Its worth mentioning i have a system

        CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2300X
        Motherboard: Gigabyte A320M-S2H
        Ram: 8gb DDR4 2400

That can handle virtual machines so ive got time to mess around and fined out if it is worth all the hasle
