Can a computer with an Intel CPU be upgraded to 20.04?

I've been away from Kubuntu for a while since an attempt to upgrade to 16.04 failed, and Network Manager on 14.04 stopped working. I'd like to update to 20.04, but the iso I downloaded was kubuntu-20.04-desktop-amd64.iso. I saw somewhere that Ubuntu dropped i386 support a while back. My computer has an Intel Core i7 CPU. Will this iso work on an Intel machine, or can I only upgrade using an earlier i386 iso?

My computer is set up to dual-boot to W7 or Kubuntu. I keep all my data in separate partitions that are shared with Windows. I'm planning to reformat my Kubuntu partition and do a clean install.

i386 means 32 bit architecture, while amd64 means 64 bit architecture, no matter if it is an Intel cpu or an AMD one. AMD are just the ones who came up with the specs for 64 bit, so they got it name it.
The iso you have will work just fine on your i7. I believe all i7 cpus are 64 bit, even old ones.

Thanks for the explanation. My computer is 64 bit. Now comes the fun part, along with a lot of head banging!

If you have an Intel CPU with integrated graphics, the install shoudl be painless.

I'm running a Quad Core 4th Generation i7 and had no problem with the install of 20.04, nor with running it daily. I've now moved on to 20.10 and it installed without issue and runs great. You should be fine.

              Hi
I'm thinking on doing the upgrade from 19.04 with an Intel mobo, if I do I'll report back.

As I said, Intel is usually painless because everything works with the default kernel.

I have read of some regressions in the open source drivers, but it seems to affect amd mostly.
