Using the real time Kernel in Kubuntu 9.10

    Hi
I installed the real time kernel and it boots up ok but the realtime engine won't start in Jack. I've not come across this issue using Xubuntu 8.04.
I've done a search on the web but can't find any details regarding Kubuntu 9.10 / if there are problems.

I'd love to use my music software in Kubuntu.
Can anyone offer me some help please?
    Thanks

I've just tried to install the Real Time Kernel on my Xubuntu 9.10 and seem to be getting the same results.

I don't understand as there is a version of UbuntuStudio 9.10.......

      Hi,

Have a look at this page, particularly the code instructions in the Real-Time support section. I think that should solve your problem - I seem to recall it did for me, but twas a while ago

Re: Using the real time Kernel in Kubuntu 9.10

Thanks for your help Steve. I think it was because I'd not added my username to the group 'audio'. You can do this by :

Open the terminal console from the K Menu in the bottom left of the screen (go to the K menu and search for 'terminal' and up pops the terminal program)

When terminal opens, type this into it:

        sudo adduser <username> audio

where <username> is your username in Linux

It's best to follow that link that Steve posted as there are a few other things to try/add if that doesn't work.

Kubuntu with music apps is really a joy to use. If only they had Reason working in Linux.............
