KMail - cannot open OO Writer attachments

When I try to open OO Writer attachment in KMailI I get an empty noname document with the error message: Cannot edit attachment - KMail, KMail cannot recognize when chosen editor will be closed. To prevent date loss, attachment edit will be canceled. (translated to English)

The problem occured after upgrade to Karmic on three computers and it concerns only OO Writer documents, all others, even ODS are ok. Removing openoffice.org-kde doesn't help.

Well, is it empty? How many bytes has it got? Does it work when you save it first?

Try and play around with it some more, get some more info and come back with a pre-defined problem

The problem concerns all received odt and doc attachments and also attachments in mails prepared to send. All can be saved and opened from file system. I did nothing special to cause the problem.

For example when I attach a file to a concept, I can't open it in KMail, then I save it and can open it from Dolphin.

I think the problem is, that OO Writer for some reason (bug?) cannot reach a temporary saved attachment and opens an empty document instead.

In fact I expected, that it is a simple and a common critical problem, tried to google something for two hours and found nothing. Now I try this thread to see if I am the only one with this problem in the world.

Ah, okay - works for me, josefko... I open a file from kmail and it is read only. I've got to save it on disk first to "make it mine" so to speak before I can edit it.

I am a little stumped as to why it shouldn't work for you, though. Have you checked all your paths in OOo - not sure whether there is something similar for kontact/kmail, especially tmp folders where attachments might be stored before you put somewhere proper...

Conclusions, workaround:

ODT DOC attachments in received mail: only some attachments are affected, but at least can be opened after saving in file system.

ODT DOC attachments during writing mail: Only these attachments cannot be opened immediately after attaching, but can be opened at least after saving a new mail as a concept. This is the default Karmic behaviour even with live CD. It looks like nobody cares.
