better menu editor than default and/or instructions on how to sort AUTOMATICALLY

I am a little mystified... every other OS I have ever used including Ubuntu without the K had an automatic or at least "click here to sort" option.

I can find no such on Kubuntu 9.10 after installing fresh a week ago.

I have also had several entries change themselves, hide themselves, and otherwise do weird things when using the default menu editor accessed by right clicking the magic "K" and selecting "Menu Editor"

I have several entries I added manually which keep duplicating themselves each time I run the editor, wit the duplicates being in the "hidden" folder.

What am I missing and where?

Any way to find it in 10.04 if it is not present?
