Yes. Can't see my USB printer in Lucid either. I'm wondering if it is a missing or mis-configured udev rule. These are the rules I have here in Karmic:

Re: Why can't I access my USB printer?

Both Jaunty 9.04 and Karmic 9.10 have 90-hal.rules. Karmic has, and Jaunty does not, a 70-printers.rules. No idea if that is significant or not. At this point, I'm just looking for 'differences' between the two systems in an effort to see if anything 'pops out' at me.

I use both hp laserjet 1010 and Photosmart C3180, and here's the output:

Yes, but as I said, and the description emphasizes:
lpstat displays status information about the current classes, jobs, and printers.
If you don't have a printer installed/configured, lpstat isn't going to show it.

Well, I have that:

or on Launchpad - Bug #519690

So I still have no printer in Karmic 9.10. :P

So are you going through the parallel port then? My printer is USB, has a parallel port but I've never used it. Don't even have any parallel cables left lying around to try it with...bummer.

No. The printer doesn't have USB port, so I'm connected to it with a Parallel to USB cable. But, I have to set it up as a Parallel printer in the configuration.

Read the Bug report carefully. It's all there.

Doesn't work for me -- can't add as a network printer. Bummer.

I'll check when I get home. I'll look under which area I had to add my printer.

Thanks -- I did K->Settings->System Settings->Printer Configuration->New Printer->New Network Printer
Put in the URI parallel://dev/usb/lp0
Forward
...and it just sits there doing nothing

Even though
sudo usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0
GET_DEVICE_ID string:
MFG:Canon;CMD:BJL,BJRaster3,BSCCe;SOJ:TXT01;MDL:iP 4000;CLS:PRINTERES:Canon iP4000;VER:1.06;STA:10;FSI:02;

Looks like I have the new line at the beginning of the printer ID string thing going on.
But the script to fix that didn't work for me either.
