No sound after upgrade from 9.04

The sound worked on 9.04 but on 9.10 doesn't.
I have unchecked the mute and increased the sliders values.
I have a problem where 9.10 doesn't find my sound drivers.

That looks like a very confused system! Isn't a Radeon X1200 a video card/chip? I wonder why Kubuntu thinks it is a sound chip?

Can you tell more about the hardware/motherboard? I see an IDE interface -- that implies an older design. Are the sound and video both integrated on the motherboard? Did you go into the BIOS and check the settings for sound and video (I know you said it worked in 9.04)?

If you know, or can determine, the OEM and model of the motherboard (looks like a Gigabyte), you might search that on Ubuntu forums and with Google, and see if you can turn up any further information with respect to setting up 9.10 on it. There are multiple threads on Ubuntu forum for Intel HDA sound setups, including this one which shows all the driver options:

I vaguely recall that "Azalia" model appearing in audio troubleshooting threads before -- not sure now where I saw it, but Google might help you turn it up.

Nothing seems to get it working, I trolled google and found lots of how tos but all to no success.
I downloaded an image of 9.0 and ran it as a live CD. Everything worked on the live CD.
So I presume the upgrade form 9.04 to 9.10 lost something in the process.
So I'm going to give up on trying to rescue the upgrade and do a fresh install from the CD.

Try addning yourself to the audio group (Even IF you are in the admin group). If you CDROM gives you problems you may have to add yourself to it as well. IF you are in those groups then reinstalling from the LiveCD would be the best option.

thanksfor your response, yes I was in those groups. I thik it was just a botched upgrade. There was something dururing the upgrade that removed some files, so maybe that's where it went wrong?

Could be.

If you did your upgrade through Synaptic then you could use the File --> History menu option to explore the files removed during the update and try to reinstall the ones that seem to have been removed in error.
