    kde4.4 upgrade failed

I had kubuntu 9.10 installed on my netbook. I added the ppa for kde4.4 and after the update got the result below. The kdm screen is completely different and seems to list processes as users. My user is there as well. I can log in but get to the second screen instead of a normal desktop. I have tried starting plasma desktop manually but that doesn't work. I can start apps from the terminal but they soon crash and the display is corrupted.

The only oddity I noticed in the upgrade was a message about a non standard kdm config file. I had altered the 9.10 one to adjust the dpi of kdm to fit the netbook. I selected to keep my edited version.

Any ideas on fixing it or do I have to reinstall?

    thanks

Have you done the upgrade through kpackagekit? Try to go to terminal and give sudo apt-get update and after sudo apt-get upgrade.

I seem to have fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling kdm and plasma-desktop
