    Upgrade to KDE 4.3.5

Ive just done a clean install of 9.10, because I found KDE 4.4 a bit flaky and unstable.
On the installation disk it has KDE 4.3.2, and in Backports there is KDE 4.4.
How do I now get to KDE 4.3.5?

        Re: Upgrade to KDE 4.3.5

On my Karmic this is what I get when enabling backport:
        Quote:
KDE SC 4.3.5 is now in karmic-backports.

The Backports repository is not enabled by default, so you may need to enable it in KPackageKit. Instructions for this are found on the help wiki.

To manually enable it, edit your /etc/apt/sources.list and uncomment the line
        deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted
        universe multiverse.

When upgrading from 4.3.2 to 4.3.4, some package recommendations have changed, so using dist-upgrade (or full-upgrade in aptitude) may be needed.

        Sources.list before update to kde4.3.5:

        ## Uncomment the following two lines to add software from the 'backports'
        ## repository.
        ## N.B. software from this repository may not have been tested as
        ## extensively as that contained in the main release, although it includes
        ## newer versions of some applications which may provide useful features.
        ## Also, please note that software in backports WILL NOT receive any review
        ## or updates from the Ubuntu security team.
        #deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse
        #deb-src http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse

        Kde version:
        fintan@fintanws2:~$ kde4-config --version
        Qt: 4.5.2
        KDE: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)
        kde4-config: 1.0
        fintan@fintanws2:~$

sources list after updating to kde4.3.5
        ## Uncomment the following two lines to add software from the 'backports'

deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse
        deb-src http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse

        In synaptic->refresh shows:

        kdebase-bin
core binaries for the KDE 4 base module

        Installed version:
        Version: 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu3

        New version:
        Version 4:4.3.5-0ubuntu karmic1
        Here you are uncommenting:
        #deb http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse
        #deb-src http://ch.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic-backports main restricted universe multiverse
        To get kde4.4:
        Quote:
Users of our stable 9.10 release can install it from the Kubuntu Backports PPA.

If you have used Virtuoso 5.0.12 you should consider installing the "virtuosoconverter" package which will convert your existing Virtuoso data to the new format.

To update, use the Software Repository Guide to add the following repository to your software sources list:
        ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
Here you are adding backports PPA !

If you have added backport PPA then you will have to get rid of that first.

You should find them in /etc/apt/sources.d
        I think they are called:
        kubuntu-ppa-backports-karmic.list
        Edit:
        After:
        Code:
        sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
        fintan@fintanws2:~$ kde4-config --version
        Qt: 4.5.2
        KDE: 4.3.5 (KDE 4.3.5)
        kde4-config: 1.0

          Fintan,

          Its me being an idiot.
I added the Kubuntu Backports ppa to my sources - Hence getting KDE 4.4.
All I needed to do was tick the "unsupported updates" in package manager and that would have done the trick.
Re-installed and done it properly this time.
