Installing open Office 3.2 on Karmic

On my KK open office 3.1 was very slow, especially with saving and opening files.

    After having read this:
    http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osr...patibility.htm

and a few earlier articles I can't find any more I decided to give OO3.2 a whirl.

I found a good tut here:
    http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-ins...in-ubuntu.html

    Follow the instructions.

Since I didn't remove open office 3.1 this scripts would not work:

    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i ~/Desktop/OOO320_m12_native_packed-1_en-US.9483/DEBS/desktop-integration/openoffice.org3.2-debian-menus_3.2-9472_all.deb
To get a starter in the Office menu I did the following:
    - first open kdesudo dolphin and navigate to:

    /opt/openoffice.org3/
and gave it user rights (instead of root).
Don't forget to click on "include subfolders and files"

Then open up menu editor and make a new starter under Office, give it the icon you want.

In my case, since I like opening up the open office panel with the choices of which instance of open office you wish to run, I pointed the starter to:
    /opt/openoffice.org3/program/soffice
I must say it opens up very quickly and has a lot of new features to play with.

I hope this is useful to anyone wanting the latest open office suite

Very very helpful. I was baffled as to how to install the OO3.2 debian. Your tips set it all up for me. Am very grateful!

I tried to run 3.1 when it was released but for some weird reason it never worked. I saw the OOo logo and then a weird error showed up closing everything immediately. Now it just worked from the very beginning... I gotta admit I never removed the 3.1 packages at all.

Re: Installing open Office 3.2 on Karmic

How can I get color schemes for 3.2 ?
Is it really necessary to install Go-OO ? It seems to be downloading a whole new copy of OOo 3.2... that's too much space and requires more time than I wanna spend on installing OO...
