    KDE 4.4.0 Caikaku

    Hi

Yesterday, it was released the new version of KDE.

My question: how can i update my KDE? Will it be available automaticaly?

Or do I need to do it by myself?

I'm looking forward for this update...

    Thanks

    Re: KDE 4.4.0 Caikaku

since the next Kubuntu is out in about 2months there will be no updates to 9.10 to give it KDE4.4. But once you get Kubuntu 10.04 it should have KDE4.4.
Other than that packages of KDE4.4 for Kubutu should be availible in a week or so, these should do the job for you - but its not 100% safe.
My advice just hold out for Lucid - i know its hard to wait!

So you are saying that I'm stuck with KDE 4.4 RC2 until April??

Not really, if your using 4.4 RC2 that means you already enabled backports to install RC2, in that case wait a week or so and check out the Kubuntu news page for the next manual update to get 4.4

What i was saying is that "Kpackage Kit/synaptic/etc.." will not pop telling you 4.4 is the next update anytime soon ( ie until after lucid is out )

That makes sense. I just checked out Kubuntu.org but nothing yet.

I left it downloading overnight and when I rebooted it wouldn't go into KDE and instead gave me a linux command prompt. I managed to get into Gnome and then ran apt-get update and dist-upgrade with the -f option. This seemed to go OK so I rebooted again, the graphics got screwed as I just got a multi-coloured screen. I then tried to reboot with recovery mode in Grub and then ran dpkg. This resolved all the remaining issues and KDE 4.4 works fine now excepting that I have to reboot in recovery mode and run KDE from the command prompt.

I had absolutely no problems with RC2 and it's amazing that the final release has so many problems.

I suspect the problem isn't KDE 4.4, but rather that the entire KDE 4.4 update hasn't been added to the repository yet, so everyone has been getting only partial update which in turn led to the problems. That's what happened to me last night. I think you'll find in a week or so all the packages will be up to date and it'll all iron out.

You are probably right, piss poor quality control again.
