    KDE 4.3.90 issue

    I'm currently running Kubuntu 9.10 64bit.
I thought I'd try out 4.3.90. After the install (and login), the desktop is completely empty. Alt-F2 doesn't work. Nor does right-clicking.
The apps I had running before the install (two Okular instances and a Dolphin window) displayed with no apparent issues. Just couldn't Alt-Tab.
I could, however, Ctrl-Esc, and saw that kded4 (i do hope i recall the name correctly) was using 50% of CPU (since i have dual core, i'm guessing that's max allowed per process, but i may be mistaken). I TERM'd kded4 and after a restart it no longer hogged the CPU.
I switched to tty1 and ran sudo apt-get check (in case the install was broken). Everything seems fine. I even ran dpkg --configre -a, in case some configuring wasn't performed. Still nothing.

Any ideas ? Any more information i could provide ? (really don't know where to start) Thanks in advance.

Try refreshing Plasma using Konsole and issuing the command.

    sudo rm ~/.kde/share/config/plasma*

    Followed by a restart

Oh well, I guess it must be a 64 bit issue

Is there an easy way to downgrade ? will it work if i try to install 4.3.2 directly ? Or should i uninstall kde, then install 4.3.2 ? Given that my kdmrc was overwritten, maybe it would be better to go with the latter.
On the other hand, I guess I could wait 3 days for RC2.

Are 'plasma-desktop' and 'kwin' running (you can check with Ctrl+Esc)

If not, check that the binaries are installed with (for example):
            Code:
            which plasma-desktop kwin
If either reports that binary is not found, check that it's package is installed ('plasma-desktop' and 'kde-window-manager'). Other packages worth checking are kdebase-workspace-bin (for krunner) and kubuntu-desktop.
