    Amarok 2.2.2

I just downloaded Amarok 2.2.2 via Adept. Along with were two updates to the related packages. So I said to myself, "Self, maybe this will work." Does anybody know just what is going on with this product?

Oh, no, no, no. Still sucks. Won't play ANY internet stream.

I tried to use the Bug Reporting tool in Amarok. Clicked on it, it started collect info. About 25 seconds later it came back and said, "This is not an Ubuntu package". What is up with that?

On the KDE forum, the defenders drip with honeyed words about the virtues of Amarok 2.2.2. Still doesn't work, at least in some environments. Inconsistencies are expexted in alpha and beta releases, not a final.

SMplayer still RULEZ!!!! Needless to say, I immediately did an apt-get remove. Followed by a purge.

You are posting in 9.10 Karmic. You say you downloaded, via Adept, Amarok 2.2.2. As Amarok is at version 2.2.0 with KDE 4.3.2 in 9.10 Karmic, that implies you are using KDE 4.4 rc1, correct? Assuming 'yes,' then you can't blame Amarok. Did you read the warning for KDE 4.4 rc1:

KDE SC 4.4 RC1 is not stable software, as such, it is not suitable for everyday or production use. KDE SC 4.4 RC1 is aimed at testers and those who would like to have an early look at the next KDE SC release.

...Users of our stable 9.10 release can install it from the Kubuntu Backports PPA...

      > FAQ: Repositories

There are many kinds of repositories - some are more official than the others.

The PPA repositories are not the "official" Ubuntu repositories:
Personal Package Archives (PPA) allow you to upload Ubuntu source packages to be built and published as an apt repository by Launchpad.
The Kubuntu PPA repositories are maintained by the same persons as the "official" repositories but still > Kubuntu Backports PPA
      PPA description

Backports of new versions of KDE and major KDE apps for Kubuntu which are not yet tested enough to go to Ubuntu Backports.

This is Linux, there are lot of applications ( > Topic: Media Players) and you could use whatever works with you.

The repeat feature is missing in Amarok 2.2.2. No repeat for track, album or playlist.

It's there. Click on the little music note at the bottom of the playlist. It was moved.

Thanks, but there is no little music note at the bottom of the playlist. There is one in the lyrics and wikipedia section, but it does not control repeating.

Oops! Found it. Thanks again, but it's not a little music note -- at least on my Amarok. It's a rectangular icon called "track progression". Clicking on it, brings up the menu with several repeat options. Before, I used the playlist menu to select those options. Adjusting to the "newness" ...

Weird, this is what the bottom of my playlist looks like. I noticed as I selected different choices, the icon changes, so yours may not be the little blue note.

Just saw your edit...Glad you found it.

I just thought I try it again after the frustrations with 2.2.0/1, CDs still won't play. When I click on the audio CD icon all I get are six directories called CDA, FLAC, Full CD, Information, MP3 and OGG Vorbis. I also get this in Dolphin as well so it may well be a KDE 4.4 RC1 bug.

                      Re: Amarok 2.2.2

I just tested 2.2.2 with two CDs. One CD shows and plays only one track out of fifteen. VLC shows them all. I've played a little bit of each -- they all play in VLC.

I tried the second CD in 2.2.2, with a still different "buggy" scenario. In the SATA CD drive the icon comes up but shows 0 tracks, and will do nothing when I try to add it to the playlist. If I place the CD in the IDE CD drive, the icon comes up and shows and plays all tracks. That CD of course shows and plays everything in VLC.

So I'm not sure where the bugs are coming from, but it looks more like Amarok's the problem right now.

Am I the only one to have this problem? Banshee and Exaile work perfectly with both my CD and DVD drives, so why doesn't Amarok work?
