Kubuntu 9.10 - How can I see "My Computer" icon on the desktop?

    Hello everyone.

I installed Kubuntu 9.10 with your site, then all security patches. After that I installed gconf-editor + nautilus, and then tried to set the visibility of the icon "My Computer" and "Recycle Bin" on my desktop according to the instructions from google for KUbuntu 8.04. Unfortunately, I have not received any results, and on the desktop is still no icon. To view the desktop I using "Folder View desktop."

How can I see the icons that I need? What software do I need, and what should I set?

    Thanks you all for answers.

"My Computer" and "Recycle Bin" are Windows terms. Kubuntu has "Trash" and that icon sits in the Panel, but you can place it on the Desktop if you want. There isn't a direct counterpart in Kubuntu to the Windows "My Computer" icon. The "Folder View" widget you installed can be configured to show any folder you want.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      Thank you very much.

I have long use Win (any version) OS, on Linux I started to learn a month ago and I really like this OS because I think that he has a soul. These settings are very important for me because I want to adjust Kubuntu all others with whom I work, because I will probably cancel all Win XP systems that we have.

If you have any book on Kubuntu, I am very grateful for the link.

OpenSuse has always shipped a MyComputer Icon with a list of all the drives and stats on the system. I think it is great and wish all kde distro's shipped that by default.

Is there a way to install it on kubuntu?

Not "it", but there are multiple ways to see partitions and usage statistics. Kinda depends on what all you want to see -- I use a conky and see just about everything including temps and network traffic (search Ubuntu forum to learn all about conky). Gkrellm is easier than conky and will still show you a lot. Kinfocenter will show you a lot, but it is not a desktop icon.
