Re: Very long time from entering password to ready desktop

Falc7, before you try that. Let me mention that worked for me in one machine (I have always been bothered by the same issue). That machine had had several upgrades, and probably some packages not really needed. So, I removed a few KDE base packages, which prompted a massive uninstall. Then I reinstalled kubuntu desktop. I think I did all this from an lxde desktop. Believe it or not, login times were a lot better after that. I never knew why. I believe akonadi can be problematic, besides strigi.

The reason I tried that is that I built a light KDE version in my netbook and it flies!

      Hi imilano
I am also using the kde light version as outlined in that thread. I've it 3 different times and i've always been effected by the same issue. It would fly for a few hours for me, then it would suddenly become slow. Anyway I've already upgraded to 4.4 and its going well so far, i can see some edges where its a little rough but that dosen't bother me as much as slow boot up times (reminded me of vista). I'll remember your suggestion though if 4.4 dosen't work out and i have to go back to 4.3

edit: what would be a good base package to delete if i were to do that?

So, login times are better now, it seems?

If you need to back, you may want to remove anything qt (libqt, etc). Most likely you got that upgraded!
