Re: 2.6.31-17 kernel and Pulse Audio 'weirdness'

My audio controller is: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
      Description: PulseAudio sound server
PulseAudio, previously known as Polypaudio, is a sound server for POSIX and
WIN32 systems. It is a drop in replacement for the ESD sound server with
much better latency, mixing/re-sampling quality and overall architecture.
Would I benefit or be hurt if I installed pulseaudio? As it has never been installed by any of my Kubuntu OS installs, based on my hardware, I'm assuming that it isn't required. But given this recent development, well....
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Re: 2.6.31-17 kernel and Pulse Audio 'weirdness'

Did the deed. Installed pulseaudio and rebooted afterwards. Sound is fully functioning. No more pop-up for the sound when it starts after the desktop presents. This is what System Settings > Sound and Video Configuration now shows. I'm going to leave the ordering alone - for now - as sound is working just fine.

It did upon the reboot. I told it not to ask me again and clicked on No. Hey, leave well enough alone.

@snowhog: I would recommend you install pavucontrol, too. See here for more

Bookmarked. Thank you. All sound is working as of my last post, so as stated, I'm leaving well enough alone.

Understood. But that utility is useful if you are in, say, skype, and you don't have mic volume, that sort of thing. Cheers!
