Audio-CDs don't work with amarok nor dolphin

    Hi, guys
In brief: dolphin is not able to see folders or files inside commercial audio-CDs and amarok is not able to reproduce them. Only VLC player manage them correctly. I've tried not only in pc with karmic but also in a laptop with linux mint KDE Gloria, so it appears to be a problem with KDE4.
It is not a big problem, as I can listen to the music with VLC player, but it is a bit annoying, because I like plugins and possibilities of amarok.
If you need more details, please ask me.

Re: Audio-CDs don't work with amarok nor dolphin

Thank you very much, Vinny, but I already had installed everything from medibuntu repositories. I think it is not a problem of codecs; in fact, I have no problem with CDs containing mp3. I must add that Kaffeine is able to reproduce audio-CDs, but it takes almost 2 minutes to begin. As I said before, with VLC player there is no problem. Why I can't see the content of the audio-CD with dolphin? Dolphin shows the icon of audio-CD, but no file inside ("0 Kb", says). With previous versions of KDE I never got this behaviour from dolphin and amarok.

I can play with VLC, but I would like to know the reason for this. Any idea?

      Thanks again anyway, Vinny

cureus indeed .......hear I put a cd in the tray close it and the noafier pops up showing the cd i put in I click open with dolphin..........dolphin open's the cd and I see files.

after opening with dolphin (now the cd is mounted) amarok has it in the local musick tab.

how dose K3b do with reprodusing your cd's ?

if you click the Icon of the cd in dolphin what happens if eneything?

Re: Audio-CDs don't work with amarok nor dolphin

Thanks again for your interest, Vinny.
The notifier says I have inserted an audio-CD, and if I open it with dolphin, an icon of audio-CD appears on the left of the new screen, but there is no content inside (0 Kb on right lower corner). Curiously, K3b is able to copy the CD perfectly. With respect to amarok, in spite that the audio-CD is mounted (or I think so) with dolphin, it does not appear the CD content, and if I "press play", nothing happens.

I pointed out ages ago that Dolphin cannot see audio CDs whereas the Ubuntu equivalent Nautilus has no such problems. Amarok 2.2.1 is very hit and miss, sometimes it works and mostly it doesn't.

I have reverted back to Amarok 1.4.10 which works perfectly, I will go back if they ever sort out the issues. There is an upcoming release 2.2.2 so I might try that to see if it is any better. See my earlier post on how to revert back to Amarok 1.4.10

I just tried Dolphin again and it does see the audio CD now but when you click on the icon it is empty, so I'm not sure what you are doing different. Also I stated that Amarok 2.2.1 is very hit and miss, so much so that I reverted back to 1.4.10 which is rock solid, sorry for the pun.

As a matter of fact I think Amarok was good. I have been trying to get Amarok working properly on my machine again, but no luck.
Ether It just bomb out when a cd is playing for a while or it does not see the cd, and all sorts of other problems.

I ended up trying Songbird, what a pleasure!!!!!

Banshee and Exaile are excellent alternatives to Amarok

Well, it was not my intention to open a debate about which is the better audio player , but to know what is wrong in my system, as it seems to be a KDE 4.2 failure: not only amarok is not working with audioCDs, dolphin and kaffeine also show abnormal behaviour. Curiously, an "external" application, VLC player, does perfectly the job. I tried changing the default route to audioCD in "System Preferences" by the one used by VLC (/dev/sr0), but this does not arrange anything.

                          Enclosed picture of dolphin screen.

Thank you very much to everybody.

Playing Audio CDs with Amarok (2.2.0) in Kubuntu 9.10 (KDE 4.3.2)

                            1. Insert Audio CD. Wait until the Device Notifier shows it mounted.
                            2. Close the Device Notifier.
                            3. Launch Amarok.
                            4. Audio CD will be shown in the Left pane and should list the Album title and all the songs on the CD.
                            5. Right-click on Audio CD and select Add to Playlist - this will transfer the tracks to the Left pane.
                            6. First track will begin to play automatically.
These steps are what I take. It works. Just did them and am listening to the first track: 'Lost in a Lost World' of 'The Moody Blues - Seventh Sojourn'
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
