ibus does not work on second KDE session - dead keys do not work

I've been searching the web and this forum for many hours, but I still can't input Chinese with ibus.

According to all the posts I have read, I have everything configured properly. So far, the only place I have managed to input Chinese using the chewing input method with ibus is in ooffice. It works only when I do:
    Code:
    sudo killall ibus-daemon
     ibus-daemon -xd
    soffice &
I tried to launch kate or firefox using the same konsole, but I cannot select any other input method with CTRL + SPACE. When I click the ibus toolbar button, it says: "no input window".

I do have the following in my .bashrc :
    Code:
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
    export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
and I did im-switch -c to select ibus by default.

For now, if I want to type any Chinese in Kubuntu Karmic Koala, I need to fire ooffice as explained above, type Chinese and copy and paste the Chinese into the application I actually need the Chinese in (e.g. Konqueror or kmail).

Incidentally, since this morning when I was trying all sorts of things to configure ibus, the shortcut ALT + F2 (to open the application launcher dialog) no longer works.

Re: ibus does not work with KDE applications

It seems I had to reboot the computer to make all the changes effective. Login out of the session and login back in again was not enough. At least doing so does not restart the X server, which was apparently necessary after installing ibus. Maybe I should have tried CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE after login out.

I don't know if it's related, but CTRL + F2 still does not work.

Re: [FIXED] ibus does not work with KDE applications

      Update:
ibus actually works with the FIRST kde session but not the second.

In the first KDE session I open, ibus works (but the dead_keys do NOT).
In the second KDE session (ALT+CTRL+F9), ibus does not work at all, neither do the dead keys. And ALT+F2 still does not work.

I am currently working around those annoyances, but this thread remains open to those experiencing similar issues, or having a solution

Did you find a resolution for this? I am also trying to set up a second user on this machine, and only the first user is able to activate Anthy! Its driving me nuts. I have tried adding the values int X11/xinit/xinput.d/default and to .bashrc, still no go. The only thing that seems to be able to use ibus on the second session is FireFox (no idea why). Everything else says "no input window"

One other thing I noticed is that when I fire up kate from the console in the second session, it says:

"Bus:pen: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
        IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon"

I dont know what it means, but it sounds suspicious.

          No, unfortunately, I haven't.

If I ever find a solution, I'll post it there:
