KDE SC 4.4 Beta 1 is here!

woot!

The first beta of KDE SC 4.4 has packages available in our Beta PPA.
Users of our latest development release, Lucid, can upgrade to the latest packages.
Users of our stable 9.10 release can install it from the Kubuntu Beta PPA.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/beta/ubuntu karmic main

Then do sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get dist-uprade and sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop.

It is strongly recommended that you verify the integrity of these packages by installing the archive's GPG key. You may do this by following the instructions on this page.

Many thanks to Lex for his hard work on these packages.

Actually, the KDE site has already posted that Beta 2 was released today. I hope it's more stable. My plasma stuff has been seriously messed up on Beta 1. Not that I shouldn't have expected that. Lots of new features are being added to the plasma desktop with this release. Looking for Kubuntu packages for Beta 2 now.

...KDE SC 4.4 Beta2 is not stable software, as such, it is not suitable for everyday or production use...

Have any of you tried SC4.4? Does it enhance what KK9.10 has? (Which I think it Rock Solid)

Re: KDE SC 4.4 Beta 1 is here!

I have a problem with SFTP protocol after upgrading from KDE 4.3 to 4.4 beta1, and the problem stay on beta2 too.
When I try to open some sftp connection via krusader or dolphin, I see "Invalid protocol" error. FTP connections work successfully. Before installing 4.4 sftp connections works successfully.
How I can fix this problem?

Known problem (due to a new version of sftp kio slave in KDE 4.4)

In the mean time, you should be able to use the "fish://" kio slave instead.

Re: KDE SC 4.4 Beta 1 is here!

I got carried away and installed it! However, it caused endless plasma crashes and problems with Kontact and Korganizer. So, sadly I decided to revert back to 9.10 with KDE 4.3 and wait a bit more patiently.

It is somewhat stable on my machine. However, I can't test much, because nepomuk won't start.

Ah well.

SyncML support on KDE SC 4.4

In http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/PIM...Meeting2009-10 (# Akonadi SyncML Client Resource: Can be moved to trunk for KDE 4.4) and on http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/50422 (Already available are plugins for SyncML) I have found that in KDE 4.4 SyncML support are integrated.

And on http://www.omat.nl/2009/10/17/akonad...ns-api-review/ I see too:
# Work on the SyncML client is improving steadily. It will be merged into KDE 4.4. It is an Akonadi Agent and I think we still need an GUI for it, but the framework will be there. I’ll blog about it more when we have had the demo.
In kde this must be look like in this post: http://saschpe.wordpress.com/2009/08...-client-agent/

But now I install KDE 4.4 Beta 2 on my Kubuntu Karmic and didn’t see any about SyncML in akonadi.

I launch Akonadi Configuration, filter on ’sync’ and see none:

And have no kitchensync or syncml packages for kde.

How I can add SyncML akonadi resource on KDE SC 4.4 in Kubuntu?

I cannot even start KDE now.
I get a message.....
Xsession: Warning: Unable to write to /tmp; X session may exit with an error.

Can you please explain how to revert back to 9.10 with KDE 4.3?

Yeah, I can read too. But the Beta 2 *is* more stable. Plasma desktop has to be started manually for some reason. But after that, it works fine. The problems I was having configuring the panel are fixed now. And under Beta 1, I couldn't get Nepomuk to work. It does seem to work now. Also, I can access korganizerpart in Kontact. That was broken under Beta 1. So, things are getting fixed. The desktop activity stuff is still kludgy, though.
