    Kmail new and unread status

    Hallo everyone,
This is my first post here

I do use Kmail at work and I do get a lot of messages. I used Thunderbird before but Kmail looks much better. I do miss one thing from Thunderbird: distinction between new and unread messages. And I see that Kmail has that star on message envelope that should mark new message (and red color of message subject in msg list) but I do not get unread message status even if I close and reopen Kmail (envelope without star and with blue color). So I suppose that this is some kind of bug?

I just want behavior like in Thunderbird: message is new until you open message folder. After you see list of messages they are unread, and when you click message and see message body then message moves to read status.

Sorry because of my bed English

Hmmm. The behaviour you are describing that you want is exactly how my KMail behaves. I don't remember having to do anything special to get that behaviour. I'm not sure I exactly followed what your problem is though.

    As far as:

After you see list of messages they are unread, and when you click message and see message body then message moves to read status.
If you select the Settings->Configure Kmail->Misc->Folders->"Mark selected message as read after X seconds" that will achieve that.

Transition from new to read status is not problem. Problem is transition from new to unread status.

Eg. if I receive one new message in folder X and I do click in X folder but do not click to that new message and then I change folder to Inbox, I do expect that when I go back to folder X I see that message in unread status. But I see that message is still new!

Oh, I see what you are saying now. My Kmail behaves the same as you describe. I don't really make the distinction between New and Unread. I'm not sure how to get KMail to do what you are describing.

Try Settings > Configure Kmail > Appearance > Colors and check Use custom colors

New Message is #FF0000 and Unread Message is #0000FF (by default). You can change any of these colors by double-clicking on the entry, which brings up the Select Color picker.

Maybe it is a bug, because Novell KMail manual says that it should behave the way you described.
Unreadgreen dot, header in blue) A message changes its status from New to Unread after the folder containing it is reopened.
Imho it is possible to use distinguishing between new and unread posts in more useful way: by marking a post in KMail manually as unread (Ctrl + u) you can pospone reading not so important one deliberately. My email client Emacs Gnus also behaves this way and I am satisfied with it.

Re: Kmail new and unread status

You can probably get the behavior you want by adjusting Settings->Configure Kmail->Misc: When entering a folder and Mark mesage as read after.

Re: Kmail new and unread status

                Thanks

                This is definitely a bug.

I have tried to adjust Mark message as read after... to 10 s. And when I click on message in message list and wait for less than 10 s message will not enter unread status. It will stay new! So I could not find a way (except manually) to enter unread status.
