The *buntu project is very GNOME centered. All the other projects are "hobbies" to put it bluntly. KDE and XFCE are secondary citizens. Shame really, because this is one of the best distros and I really like it.

Don't hesitate to use gtk front end. Be glad that there is at least it. We almost all use for example Synaptic, when it turned out that it was the best.

I think you forgot that Kubuntu is free of charge.

mmmm.... I've developed apps using Qt3 and now Qt4. This forum doesn't look "qt3" to me. In fact, if you'll check the link at the bottom of every forum page you find that the Kubuntu forum is powered by SMF, and:

SMF is written in the popular language PHP and uses a MySQL database. It is designed to provide you with all the features you need from a bulletin board while having an absolute minimal impact on the resources of the server. SMF is the next generation of forum software - and best of all it is and will always remain completely free!

                  Re: qt recordmydesktop

What is your CPU load ?

Here the screen capture is a high CPU load process (old CPU) -> won't work: full screen / 24 fps.

                  Hmm - > tvtime:
tvtime is a high quality television application for use with video capture cards on Linux systems. tvtime processes the input from a capture card and displays it on a computer monitor or projector.
What are you trying to do ?

Maybe with the mencoder (If you are trying to capture a media from the capture card to the file) or with ffmpeg ?

                    Re: qt recordmydesktop

i am trying to record some stuff from the tuner , mainly video game stuff where i will need to see the screen live as i capture, i used to use dscaler for windows to do this since it records. thinking about using vlc but having issues getting sounds (mainly not picking the right /dev or channel for audio)

I've found that XVidCap works VERY well for capturing HIGH framrate videos smoothly.
