updates/software install (Solved)

Hello all
This may have been asked before, but I have not been able to find it. Not sure if I am in the right section
Anyway I did a fresh install of 9.10 and all is well, bar the internet. Got that working by disabling IPV6 but i still cannot update my software
All i get is unable to connect to server have tried different servers and always the same.
Has anyone any idea what i am missing or doing wrong ?

Hello again
Still having problems. No problems going on the net at all.
Can not, however, connect to repositories even though i can ping them.
If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
Latest response i got from repositories was could not connect, timed out. regardless which repository i went to.

what do you get if you do a

sudo apt-get update

in a konsole?

+ open Kpackagekit and click setings and then software sources and make shure thare checked.

?? and you do have a working internet conection.......strange.

did you varafy the md5 of the .iso and then run the checkcd when booted?

Yes, did the md5 check and checked cd before installing..
All came back ok.It installed ok, works ok and after disabling IVP6 had no problems going on the net.
It's just software update/install through apt that doesn't seem to work

Ok, got a bit further
Have been able to download the updates from the main server, however every time i want to check/download anything via apt, aptitude, synaptic etc it seems i need to ping the main server; for medibuntu repos the medibuntu server, etc............any thoughts as to why that may be so ?

Hello again
It seems the above problem was hardware related. Got a new modem today and all the problems went away.
So I can say apart from a few minor hiccups Karmic install was a success and straight forward.
