No Udate Notifications after Sleep (Suspend to RAM)

It seems that if I sleep (suspend to RAM) my laptop, I don't receive any update notifications after resuming. Sometimes, it may be a week or two before I actually shutdown and do a cold boot. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Of course, you could simply make it a routine to start your favorite package manager once a day, or so, and manually check for updates.

For me, I NEVER receive notifications until I do a manual apt-get update.

I'm thinking of making it a cron job.

Recently I received update notifications when I was off line. So I wonder what algorithm is used, obviously it is not: update immediately after session starts on line. At least I can be long time looking forward to update.

The update notifications work as long as I reboot. It seems that some code needs to be added to the the update manager so that it either polls at specified time intervals, i.e. every 24 hours, or polls after certain events, i.e. internet connection reestablished.
