Firefox Problem (SOLVED)

I installed Firefox, with the installer in menu.
It installed fine, but when i open it the icon seems to bounce for ages.
I managed to solve this, but then Firefox disappeared from the internet menu, and reappeared in the "lost & found" menu.
Now when i open Firefox i cant get it to open "maximised" i have to do it manually everytime.
Anyone know whats going on here??

Not sure. Did you install it from the repository or from another source?

I would use the totally remove option (including config files) from Synaptic and remove FF. Then I'd make sure the hidden file, ~/.mozilla, is deleted, then reinstall FF from the repository, no place else, no other source for the install file.

Please keep in mind that Firefox stores your profiles in that directory. If you have valuable bookmarks or other data in your Firefox profiles, then please back it up before deleting the ~/.mozilla directory.

For the problem described by the OP, it may help to try starting Firefox from the command line (inside a Konsole window). That way you can see if it is spitting out any error messages.

If you want to keep your bookmarks I suggest that you use the X-Marks extension, it also works with IE 8.

Thanks for all your replies.
I installed Firefox via the installer in Menu.
I`ve tried totally deleting & all config files and reinstalling, same problem.
Tried running from a console. Still only opens in 1/2 screen, with no errors thrown out.
I know its not a big problem to maximise everytime, its just irritating.

Normally when I install FF it opens half screen, I tend to put my cursor on the window edge/corner left click on your mouse and hold and then drag to the required size. Restart FF and see if that works. Maybe you could do special window settings, right click the very top bar of the window in FF Advance>Special window settings> tick size and select remember from the drop down.Assuming you have made the window the size that you want.

I'm only guessing, but maybe it could be related to this bug?

Try opening a single Firefox window and dragging its edges to almost (but not quite completely) fill your screen. Close the window and see if Firefox retains the window size you set.

Isn't that the way it is .... looking for a complicated cause when the solution is merely a drag problem.

I would never have considered it a drag problem because dragging and dropping corners to change screen sizes is such a common operation.
