I use external USB speakers. After upgrade to Karmic I have in VLC no sound from them.
Details:
- Netbook Acer Aspire One D-150, but I don't think it matters
- PCM active from the time of Jaunty
- System settings Multimedia: USB sound is first and test sound is OK.
- Sound Settings in VLC: OSS sound /dev/dsp1
- There is actually some sound from USB speakers - about once in 5 sec lasting for about 1/10 sec
- Immediately after saving OSS sound settings in VLC I can enjoy a sound for the whole second and then someting strangulates it.
- With default sound settings in VLC there is a normal sound from internal speakers.
- I have normal USB sound in Kaffeine and in Dragon.
- I cannot use Kaffeine, because they removed subtitles support from it in the new version.
I hope it will solve some setting in VLC, but I think it looks more like a new bug in the new version of VLC or KDE.
Workaround: Use speakers with 3,5 mm jack.
