I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active) [SOLVED]
I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active) [SOLVED]
I can't get sound anywhere other than in Amarok. I have VLC, Real and others installed but get no sound from any of them. More importantly, no sound coming from YouTube and other streaming sites.
Any suggestions?
The PCM channel was muted immediately after install but I already unmuted it. This is how I got sound in Amarok.
I also opened all the other channels in the settings option and unmuted those.
I repeat; Amarok sound is totally normal. VLC, Real Player and others have no sound at all. Youtube and other streaming videos are also mute.
Nope, that did not work. I just noticed that Dragon Video Player also plays sound. The same video running in VLC does not however.
Thanks for your help, any other suggestions would be welcome as this is infuriating.
Re: I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active)
This has now struck me as well. No sounds in firefox...and it doesn't appear to be a flash problem causing it. Amarok and system sounds (login/logout sound) work fine.
Re: I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active)
Try going into terminal, and running alsamixer. My sound was working on startup, and shutdown, but not in any applications. I found that unmuting the headphone channel (even though I was using speakers) in alsamixer fixed it.
Re: I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active)
Could you post exact code as to how to run aslamixer in a terminal? Please.
The phone/mic channel (and indeed all others) are already active and at high volume in KMix.
Thanks for your help.
Re: I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active)
Mine is not (or doesn't appear to be) a Flash problem either. I un and reinstalled it.
Log in and out jingle rolls ok.
I once had a similar problem in XP. I got it sorted by messing around with the output jacks at the back of my PC. No luck doing this with Koala however.
Re: I only get sound in Amarok (PCM channel is active)
The problem has resolved itself for me. I'm not sure exactly why. Two things stand out as possibly making a difference. One was I unplugged my usb microphone which may have been detected by my system as an input and output device. The other was restarting my system....although I had certainly tried that earlier.
It could also have been some sort of system update, but I didn't notice any packages that seemed sound related.
