Just to be sure... everyone who is not getting update notifications open KPackageKit, click on the settings icon, and in the right panel make sure the box marked "Notify when updates are available" is CHECKED.

that upgrade didn't help on other systems, I doubt it will change anything on this one.

I know that is talking about the Gnome update notifications, but is it possible the same applies to KDE? For those who's update notifications are working, is that consistent with the behaviour you see?

Interesting, but I doubt is that because for example the screenshot was from a clean install with plenty of upgrades (and more than a week since they appeared) and I still didn't get any notifications.

I also wonder, I have notifications set to auto-hide in the "System Tray Settings". Could it be possible they are popping up and not showing up as a little "1" in the "Notification Icon" after they close? I leave my laptop on pretty much 24x7, so perhaps the update check is happening when I'm not around and the notification is coming and going at the same time, leaving no trace that it ever came. If that is indeed the case, makes notification pretty useless.

What I've noticed though is when I click on different updates available it seems like I get something in the system tray for half of second and it disappears

I get those icons as well, I'm pretty sure those are just notifications of the actions Kpackagekit is taking while it takes them.

That dose seam relevant but why dose it seam to work for some of us.
And I have found the little 1 in the notifier icon after work so it must stay their on my box anyway.
And auto hide is on hear

I get the notifications, they pop up from the "I" and disapere fast. Most often i never se any notification for several days, yet updates are available. The packagekit icon in the tray often show loading cach until i clik it. KPackagkit seams to get stuck updating its staus very often.

Not being an idiot then, you also probably have the checkbox in the Systemsettings --> Avanced Tab --> Service Manager --> Startup Services --> KPackageKit service is checked.

HUMMMmmmm thare is some queshton over just WHEN the notifyier dose it's checking.......it dose do it but hears an exampell of how somone mite think it dosent.

yesterday I open Kpackagekit at 12:00 noon and it has 9 updates ...ok so I close Kpackagekit without installing them and wate............at 8:10 the notifyier finaley tells me about them!!!

SO somone mite see upgrades befor being notifyied and think that the notifacation is not working when it is.

I am also having this problem with a clean install! I posted a fairly retarded request for hep a few mins ago before I came across this post!!!sorry I should have looked further than the first page before I wrote a message! I have gone through this post and checked everything that people have suggested and everything is as it should be, but im not getting any notifications! annoying! not the end of the world as like every one else on this post I also regularly check directly ( i use command line) so........but I would like to get it fixed, and also for any true noobs (I am a noob my self with only 3 year kubuntu under my belt) who dont know to look for updates, it would be nice to help them experience one of the beauties of linux (that its regularly updated)

Yep, I've still yet to see an update notification. I left a set in KPackageKit for 24 hours to see if anything ever popped up. It didn't.

At this point I'm out of ideas for what could be wrong.
